Baroda Museum & Picture Gallery

The Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery was established in 1894 by

Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, one of the most progressive rulers of the
Gaekwad dynasty. The museum building was designed in a beautiful Indo-

European architectural style and the Picture Gallery was later opened in 1921.

The museum is famous for its vast collection of historical artifacts,
ancient sculptures, manuscripts, coins, textiles and international artworks. It

also houses rare Egyptian antiquities, including an Egyptian mummy, which

remains one of its most fascinating attractions. One of the unique highlights of
the museum is the large baby whale skeleton displayed in the natural history

section, which attracts visitors of all ages. The museum also features

impressive mammal sculptures and preserved animal exhibits that showcase
wildlife and natural science collections. These exhibits make the museum not

only a center of history and art but also an important destination for learning
about nature and science.

Today, the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery stands as a major cultural

landmark of Vadodara, reflecting the rich vision of Maharaja Sayajirao
Gaekwad III and preserving valuable heritage from India and around the world.
